In its most recent issue for the month of April, the Smithsonian Magazine released a publication of the top 20 small towns to visit in the United States. Many of these towns belong to the east coast and states such as Florida, Virginia and Vermont. Others were from Arizona and Idaho.

To honor the victims of sexual violence, Dodge-Fillmore-Olmsted (DFO) Victim Services and Fillmore Family Advocates, with the support of area city councils, have hung teal ribbons in nearly every town within Fillmore County as a visual reminder of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

In an area with residents' ancestors coming from Scandinavian countries, many times hearing of Spanish food makes one think "spicy" or "tortillas." Fillmore Central Spanish teacher Brian Wolfgram believes this to be a common misunderstanding when it comes to food from Spanish-speaking countries.

Lanesboro council discusses placing historic decals in vacant building windows
In order to disguise the fact that several buildings in Lanesboro are vacant, the city's Economic Development Authority (EDA) has suggested placing historic decals into the windows of each of these buildings. The idea behind this is to make the buildings appear as though they are not vacant. The hope is that showing some attention to the building would attract people to possibly buy it for a specific purpose rather than leaving them vacant.

In order to curb confusion as clubs go from business to business for fundraisers, the Fillmore Central Booster Club and Birds of Prey Booster Club have joined forces. Under the Booster Club umbrella, every other club will receive their shares of fundraisers to which businesses donate money.

Spring Grove police chief warns of possible 'quick-change artist' at local retailers
I just wanted to send out some information that may affect some of the area businesses. Between the days of March 17 to 19, there has been a white male, about 30 years of age, with short brown hair and a beard and mustache, that has been in the Houston and La Crescent area and apparently he is an accomplished quick-change artist.

New playground plans presented to Lanesboro School Board
As the current playground in Sylvan Park has been showing its age, plans for erecting a new and more innovative playground have been in the works. Lanesboro's city administrator, David Todd, and Flagship Recreation's Charlie Colvin briefed the Lanesboro School Board on the new equipment and the reasoning for certain pieces during the board's regular meeting on Thursday, March 20.
