Gerald E. "Jerry" Torvund, 73, of Zumbrota, died on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at his home in Zumbrota.

Gerald Edward Torvund was born Sept. 27, 1942, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., to Benjamin and Adeline (Hofstad) Torvund. He grew up mainly in Red Wing, and later his family moved to Zumbrota. Gerald graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1960. He started working as a delivery man for Moorman Feeds. On April 11, 1964, he married Rita E. Jacobson in Zumbrota. Gerald started working for Crenlo in Rochester, and Gerald and Rita moved to Rochester in 1968. In 1976, they moved to a farm near Chatfield, and in 1999 they moved back to Zumbrota. Gerald worked at Crenlo for more than 30 years, and retired in 2007. Gerald was a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing and looked forward to his annual winter golf outing in Laughlin, Nev., with his buddies. Gerald volunteered at the monthly fish and steak fries at the Stary-Yerka VFW Post 5727 in Zumbrota.

Gerald is survived by his sons, Ed (Rhonda) Torvund of Rochester and Gary Torvund of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Amanda and Amber Torvund of Rochester; brother, Darrel Torvund of Rochester; and sisters-in-law, Marie (Luther) Romo of Andover, Minn., Doris Hellivik of Minneapolis, Judy Krause of Pine Island and Rae (Lee) Farrell of Hastings, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; parents, Benjamin and Adeline; and uncle, Harvey Torvund.

A memorial service was  held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016,  at United Redeemer Lutheran Church, 560 Third St. W, Zumbrota, with the Rev. Dr. Margaret J. Pleiss-Sippola officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Zumbrota Cemetery.
