A. Jennings Johnson, 82, of Spring Grove, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.

He was born July 22, 1930, to Haaken and Manda (Walhus) Johnson. He was a lifelong Spring Grove resident, graduating from Spring Grove High School.

In 1956, he married Elaine Hanson. The couple farmed in rural Spring Grove. Elaine preceded him in death in July of 1990. On Sept. 26, 1992, he married Norma Kolodge.

Jennings was a farmer all of his life, later helping his son, Mark, who continued on the family farm.

He enjoyed playing cards, square dancing and tinkering with things on the farm. He was the caretaker for the mobile home park in Arizona where he liked to spend his winters.

Jennings was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove and served on its cemetery board.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of Maplewood, Minn.; his daughters, Karen (Mark) Thompson of Starbuck, Minn., and Alice (Tom) Eberle of Sun Prairie, Wis.; a daughter-in-law Kari (Dan) Alstad of Spring Grove; a step-son Michael (Kim) Kolodge of Whitebear Lake; his grandchildren, Erick, Michael and Matthew Thompson, Laura and Mitchell Eberle, and Brooke, Derek and Elizabeth Johnson; and a step-granddaughter, Leanne Kolodge.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Elaine, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spring Grove. Pastor Stephanie Frey will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
