With spring just a few months away, planning weddings is starting to become a common thing. With wooded forest areas throughout rolling bluffs, a scenic bike trail along the Root River, and a variety of places for lodging, Rushford and Peterson are two great towns to have an outdoor wedding.

Rushford

Located a couple hundred feet above the city of Rushford, Magnuson Bluff has been a great scenic place to have an outdoor wedding. With phenomenal views of surrounding bluffs and an open valley below, it makes a perfect place to start a new life with a loved one.

One of the more recent weddings held on the bluff was that of Dean and Elisabeth Smith in October of 2012. Originally from Rushford, Dean thought it was a unique place to have a wedding.

"We both liked the area, scenery, cropland and the leaf colors. We wanted the October wedding so we could shoot for some fall colors. It was in the 70s a few days before, then actually had some snow flurries during the wedding," said Dean.

If interested in having a wedding at Magnuson Bluff, notify the Rushford City Hall prior to the event.

Peterson

When looking for a nice, small, quiet place to have an outdoor wedding, the bandstand in Peterson provides another opportunity with some of the most needed necessities. For scenic views, all a person has to do is to look up and check out the towering bluffs above. For a romantic walk, the Root River Bike Trail is only a block way.

Nick and Melissa Hall made the bandstand a nice place for their wedding in June of 2013.

"I grew up here and my family and friends are here," said Melissa. "Nick and I both love the area. We stayed at Geneva's that weekend of the wedding. The grooms had supper at the ball field in town. It worked great. There were things to keep the kids busy. It was beautiful weather and just a great place to relax."

If interested in having a wedding at the bandstand, notify the Peterson City Hall prior to the event.

Scenic destinations

These are just two examples of the wonderful venues and sites where weddings can be held in southeastern Minnesota. Each choice of location can certainly make a wedding feel unique.
