Michael Eugene Wilkemeyer, 60, of Inver Grove Heights, died Monday, November 21, 2016 at his son’s home in Owatonna following a courageous fight against cancer.

He was born April 5, 1956 in Austin, Minnesota the son of Raymond and Carol (Graves) Wilkemeyer.  He attended school in Austin and Rushford.  He joined the United States Marines on January 12, 1976 and was honorably discharged on January 11, 1979.  Michael worked as a Correctional Officer for the Bureau of Corrections, most recently in Waseca and retired 2006.  He enjoyed the outdoors, especially duck hunting, fishing and playing with his dogs.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Wilkemeyer of Rushford; companion, Kathy Innes of Inver Grove Heights; children, Niki (Todd) Hill of Cresco, IA, Jacob Wilkemeyer of Faribault, John (Jaimi) Wilkemeyer of Owatonna, Jeremy Wilkemeyer of West Concord, Katie (Dacota) Gaffke of Owatonna and Mary Wilkemeyer-Innes of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren, Tyler, Abby, Braiden, Ashton, Alexis, Alina and one on the way; siblings, Bonnie Peterson, Greg Wilkemeyer, Ted (Alice) Wilkemeyer, Wally (Julie) Wilkemeyer, Christine (Terry) Howell, Dan (Sheri) Wilkemeyer, Theresa (Dale) Baker and Tim (Karen) Wilkemeyer; former wife, Laurie Wilkemeyer; many nieces and nephews and his faithful furry friends, Bullet and Hope.

He was preceded in death by father, Raymond and brother, Norman.

Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Monday, November 28, 2016 and 9-10am Tuesday, November 29th all at the funeral home. A Funeral service will be held at 10am on Tuesday, November 29th at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna. Interment with military honors will be in the MN State Veterans Cemetery in Preston.
