Janell O. Congdon, 85, died on Feb. 13, 2017, after struggling with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for several years.

Janell was born on July 14, 1931, to Ole and Julia (Paquette) Mundahl at St. Ann’s Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. She grew up in Peterson, where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

After high school, she attended Winona State Teacher’s College (now Winona State University) and taught first grade for five years. In July 1953, she married Raymond Congdon who preceded her in death in 1996.

Janell pursued her lifelong love of music by serving as a church organist, singing in church choirs and organizing musical events for family, friends and neighbors.

Janell is survived by her son, Thomas, of Mesa, Ariz.; daughter Camille (Thomas) James and grandchildren Lydia and Julia James, all of Kennewick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray; sister Evelyn Lokkesmoe of Elgin, Ill., and brother Roger Mundahl of Connell, Wash.; half-sisters Mabel Mundahl and Signa Benston and half-brother Oscar Mundahl, all of Minnesota.
