Donna Barnes, 87, of Harmony, died Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Clara House in Harmony.

She was born July 23, 1929, in Cresco, Iowa, to Frank and Mabel (Snell) Stortz.

She graduated from Harmony High School in 1947.

She married Richard Barnes on July 18, 1948, at the State Line Methodist Church in rural Harmony.

She worked at the Hardware Store in Harmony prior to being a caretaker at the Cardinal House in Harmony.

She was an adult 4-H leader and active in the State Line Methodist Women’s Organizations.

She and her husband were members of the Fillmore County Cattleman’s Association and in 1989 they received an award for Cattleman of the Year.

She loved flowers, cooking, cardinals and to watch wrestling. The biggest joy in her life was her family. 

She is survived by five children, Patricia (Raymond) Kirchmeyer, Donald (Julie) Barnes, Peggy (Richard) Erickson, Dennis (Renee) Barnes and Douglas (Elizabeth) Barnes; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Barnes; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Kathryn Fishbaugher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; a son, David; a granddaughter, Emily Peterson; a grandson, Richard Barnes; a great-grandson, Matthew Korkowski and a brother, Francis Stortz.

Funeral services for her were held on Saturday, March 11, at the United Methodist Church in Harmony. Interment followed in the State Line Cemetery in rural Harmony.
